ELECTION OF PRESIDING MEMBER FOR AHAFO ANO NORTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

The Ahafo Ano North Municipal Assembly exercised its Constitutional right of selecting a Presiding Member (PM) for the newly elected Assembly Members on the 21st of February, 2024 at the Municipal Assembly Hall. As enshrined in the Local Governance Act, 2016 (ACT 936), Section 17(4).  Though the Presiding Member should have been elected on the day of the inauguration, it was required by law that the Secretary of the house, announce the voting to be rescheduled since none of the aspirants had 2/3 of the total valid votes cast. Contestants for the position of the Presiding Member were Hon Yamson Ernest and Hon. Joseph Debrah,but hon Yamson Ernest step down from contesting. The Electoral Commission led by Mrs. Betty Mensah explained to the members that new filings for the position will only be allowed if Hon Debrah couldn't secure 2/3 of the total valid votes cast which is 38 for the second round of election.
