ELECTION OF PRESIDING MEMBER FOR AHAFO ANO NORTH MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY



The Ahafo Ano North Municipal Assembly exercised its Constitutional right of selecting a Presiding Member (PM) for the newly elected Assembly Members on the 21st of February, 2024 at the Municipal Assembly Hall. As enshrined in the Local Governance Act, 2016 (ACT 936), Section 17(4). 


Though the Presiding Member should have been elected on the day of the inauguration, it was required by law that the Secretary of the house, announce the voting to be rescheduled since none of the aspirants had 2/3 of the total valid votes cast.


Contestants for the position of the Presiding Member were Hon Yamson Ernest and Hon. Joseph Debrah,but hon Yamson Ernest step down from contesting. The Electoral Commission led by Mrs. Betty Mensah explained to the members that new filings for the position will only be allowed if Hon Debrah couldn't secure 2/3 of the total valid votes cast which is 38 for the second round of election.


Unfortunately, after the voting was completed, hon Debrah couldn't attained 2/3 of the total valid votes cast but he got 37  votes in the first and second round respectively, so he was out. 


Filing of nomination was opened again by the Electoral Officer and Hon. Nana Adwoa Achia, Hon Fredrick Nyamekye and Hon Yussif Abdul Wahab filed for nomination. A total number of fourty (40) members took turns to cast their votes.

Unfortunately, after the voting was completed, none of the Aspirant attained 2/3 of the total valid votes cast. Hon Nana Adwoa Achia got 32 votes, Hon Fredrick Nyamekye got 2 votes, Hon Yussif Abdul Wahab also  got 2 votes and 4 rejected ballots 

The sitting was adjourned and they have to come back within 10 working days.

TEPA HOSTS PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION FOR 105 APPRENTICE DRESSMAKERS

Last Saturday, the Tepa Zone 1 of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA) conducted a professional examination for 105 apprentices in Tepa. The apprentices, who have undergone three years of training, sat for the examination to certify and formalize their operations as tailors and dressmakers in the country. Ibrahim Aziz Bright, Chairman of Tepa Zone 1 of GNTDA, emphasized the importance of taking the examination seriously, as it will enable the apprentices to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their profession.
