ASANTE AKIM CENTRAL MUNICIPALITY LAUNCHES SECOND PHASE OF PLANTING FOR FOOD AND JOBS PROJECT

In a bid to bolster agricultural productivity and support local farmers, the Asante Akim Central Municipality has officially launched the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) project, a key initiative championed by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa.

The launch ceremony, held at the Municipal Assembly Hall, was presided over by Madam Martha Shamiama, the Municipal Agricultural Director. Joining her were esteemed dignitaries including Honorable Robert Yaw Kwarkye, the Municipal Chief Executive; Mr. Kwame Asokwa Sarpong, Municipal Director of Agriculture; Honorable Samuel Baiden, Municipal Agricultural Convener; and Mr. Joshua Alele, Municipal Chief Farmer, alongside various agricultural officers and local farmers.

Madam Martha Shamiama outlined the objectives and mechanics of the second phase of PFJ, emphasizing its role in supporting farmers by providing access to necessary agricultural inputs on credit. Under this phase, farmers can obtain materials they need upfront and pay for them with harvested produce, facilitating smoother operations and ensuring sustained productivity.

Following the launch, agricultural officials highlighted the enthusiastic reception from farmers who eagerly embraced the project. All local farmers are encouraged to register and actively participate in this initiative.

Honorable Robert Yaw Kwarkye, in his address, underscored the government's commitment to transforming agriculture and emphasized the positive impact of effective management in attracting youth to farming. He urged every farmer to seize the opportunity presented by PFJ.

During the event, Mr. Joshua Alele, recognized as the Municipal Best Farmer, encouraged fellow farmers to disseminate information about PFJ to their peers and apply the knowledge gained from the launch in their farming practices.

Farmers expressed optimism and confidence in the PFJ project, urging agricultural officers to maintain regular engagement to provide ongoing education and support.

The launch of the second phase of PFJ signifies a significant step towards enhancing food security, improving livelihoods, and fostering sustainable agricultural development in the Asante Akim Central Municipality. With robust participation and support from stakeholders, this initiative is poised to make a lasting impact on the local farming community, promoting economic growth and prosperity in the region.
