Last Saturday, the Tepa Zone 1 of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA) conducted a professional examination for 105 apprentices in Tepa. The apprentices, who have undergone three years of training, sat for the examination to certify and formalize their operations as tailors and dressmakers in the country.
Ibrahim Aziz Bright, Chairman of Tepa Zone 1 of GNTDA, emphasized the importance of taking the examination seriously, as it will enable the apprentices to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their profession. He advised the apprentices to listen and obey their masters to avoid difficulties during the examination.
Mrs. Margaret Nartey, Coordinator of Tepa Zone 1 of GNTDA, appealed to the government and local authorities to provide school uniforms and other attire for the apprentices to sew, instead of sending them to different districts. She noted that this will help reduce youth unemployment and utilize the skills of the apprentices.
Mr. Kwadwo Frimpong, the examiner from the regional office, urged the apprentices to continue working hard even after completing the examination, as their certificates will be recognized not only in Ghana but also internationally. He also encouraged parents to take good care of their children who are in craft work, just as they do for those in senior high schools.
The examination is a significant step towards formalizing the operations of tailors and dressmakers in the country, and the GNTDA is committed to promoting the development of the profession.
